Mr. Starup is Head of Private Equity and Infrastructure Investments in the €9bn Danish labour market pension fund PensionDanmark. Prior to PensionDanmark he was partner in Nordea Private Equity, a Copenhagen based fund of funds, where he was responsible for sourcing and performing due diligence on private equity funds as well as he held several advisory board seats with European private equity funds. Prior to joining the Nordea Private Equity, he was head of the Transaction Management unit for debt issuance and asset-backed securities at Nordea Debt Capital Markets.

Mr. Starup has an M.Sc in Business Administration & Commercial Law from Copenhagen Business School.

PensionDanmark is a not-for-profit labour market pension fund established in 1993. It offers pension, insurance and health care products on the basis of collective agreements covering 525,000 individuals employed in 35,000 companies within the private and public sector. The pension plan is based on a fully-funded defined contribution system. Pension contributions are paid according to the stipulations of the collective agreements with the employers paying 2/3 of the contributions and the employees paying 1/3.

In 2006, premiums of DKK 8.4bn made PensionDanmark the third largest pension company in Denmark with a market share of 9.3 per cent. Assets under management had grown to DKK 69bn at the end of 3rd quarter 2007. Premiums are expected to grow to DKK 11.3bn in 2010 and assets under management to DKK 110bn (end of 2010).
