Rakesh Jhunjhunwala , Partner, Rare Enterprises

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, born on July 5 1960, is a commerce graduate. He also has a professional qualification as a member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
Disregarding traditional career options, he embarked on his career as a first generation proprietory trader and investor in 1985. Since then, despite many offers to manage external money, he has chosen to remain a proprietory trader and investor.
His investment approach spans public and private equity markets with a long-term time horizon.
His trading activity spans equities, equity derivatives, fixed income securities, commodity and currency derivatives.
Often referred to as the “Warren Buffet of India” by Indian and International media, he has also been profiled by Bloomberg and Wall Street Journal amongst others. He has also been ranked as a billionaire by Forbes magazine.
He is on the board of several Indian corporates including being Chairman of Aptech Ltd.
Rare Enterprises
Rare enterprises is a Proprietory Trading Arm of Rakesh Jhunjhunwala. It trades mainly in equities including derivatives and has some exposure to commodity, debt and exchange markets. It derives its name from the first two initials of Rakesh and his wife Rekha. It has a team of 12 analysts. At the moment, its activities are restricted to India with ambitions to ultimately have a global footprint.
