About the Author
Gary Lachman has enjoyed a 30-year distinguished career as an international real estate attorney combined with vast experience as a land developer, residential builder and real estate fund executive. While working at the US Department of State as an international real estate portfolio manager and leader of the New Embassies and Consulates Group, he negotiated and managed the acquisition and development of projects in over 40 countries around the globe. As a private developer in the US he has developed over five billion square meters of residential land and buildings. Currently, Gary is special counsel on foreign law and a partner of Lachman & Yeniaras, an Istanbul-based legal consultancy comprising Turkish attorneys with LLM degrees from top US universities.
Gary is an associate professor of international real estate at the Johns Hopkins University where he has taught a graduate-level course in International Real Estate Investment and Development in Emerging Markets, and where the idea for writing this book was born. After being a guest lecturer on negotiation at the Jagiellonian University College of Law in Krakow, Poland, he served as an international real estate consultant to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of the Republic of Poland, assisting with the ministry’s acquisitions and disposals in the US and worldwide. In Istanbul, he contributes a column entitled The Consultant’s Corner to Hurriyet Daily News & Economic Review. Gary holds a JD from the University of Denver College of Law and a BA from Duke University. He is a member of the Florida and Colorado Bar Associations.
