
William Lean is now serving his ‘gardening leave’. He was a Managing Director of VinaCapital and Head of the infrastructure department. He had established VinaCapital’s infrastructure division and was instrumental in the listing of Vietnam Infrastructure Ltd in July 2007 on the London Stock Exchange’s AIM market. VNI raised USD402mn from investors around the world, including Singapore’s Temasek. He was formerly the Group Managing Director of HLG Capital Bhd (listed on Bursa Malaysia), the investment banking arm of Hong Leong Group, one of the largest conglomerates headquartered in Southeast Asia.
Prior to joining HLG Capital, William was based in Bangkok with Asia Equity Infrastructure Fund (AEIF), a USD355mn investment fund dedicated to investing in infrastructure assets pan-Asia, from inception to divestment. Key sponsors are Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, AMP Life and the Asian Development Bank. Before joining AEIF, he was in equity research (HSBC James Capel - Kuala Lumpur) and corporate finance (Standard Chartered Merchant Bank - Singapore).
William graduated with a B.Sc. (Honours) in Economics and Accountancy from City University, London. He is presently a resident of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
