PEM Webinar: Valuation in a Dislocated Market
Valuation in a Dislocated Market
Troubled portfolio companies, distressed markets, distressed debt and fair value

Thursday, November 12:
1:00pm EDT
10:00am PDT

What is this webinar about?
Valuation, despite or in large part due to the advent of FAS 157, is hardly an exact science. Value remains in the eye of the beholder, even if the Financial Accounting Standards Board tells firms what they should be looking at. The ample room for interpretation is exactly what keeps GPs and auditors up at night.

This webinar will take an in-depth look at how the current economic environment is making fair value even more difficult to determine for troubled portfolio companies and investments in distressed debt.

The instructional session will include:
• Focus on what type of disclosure and documentation is necessary for a level 3 investment
• FASB treatment of a bargain purchase
• What effect the secondary market prices have on fair value if any?
• Compliance with FAS 157 in a dislocated market
• How do you value distressed debt especially if it’s thinly traded?
• Update on IPEV guidelines and fair value

Why Attend?
With the PEM Webinar Series, you will earn CPE credits and keep up-to-date with the latest changes in tax, accounting and fund finance and administration practices without having to leave your desk and cutting into your travel budget.

Did you know?  A new law overhauling New York’s accounting rules expanded definition of “public accounting” to include accounting, management and financial advisory services, in addition to tax and professional services. CPAs performing public accounting services for non-CPA employers, whether those are companies, the government, universities or nonprofits, will be required to register with New York State, including private equity CFOs.

In addition, a registered CPA or public accountant must complete 40 hours of general studies or 24 hours of concentrated study in one recognised area of study, such as tax, during each year. The new law also changed the structure of CPE requirements – before, CPAs could complete 120 hours anytime over the course of three years, but now CPAs must complete 40 hours each year.

Who should attend?
The webinar series is expressly for those accounting and finance professionals within a private equity firm charged with managing its financial functions:
• Chief Financial Officers
• Chief Operating Officers
• Controllers
• Treasurers
• Fund Administration Personnel
